Canyon Country Canyon is off a 14-1 start and won the Ventura tournament championship on Thursday night behind senior guard Coley Apsay, who made seven three-pointers and finished with 31 points in a 53-50 victory over Ventura. Apsay was named tournament MVP.
Canyon’s only loss is to Encino Crespi, and the Cowboys will be a contender to win the Foothill League title. They rely on a trapping 2-3 zone defense and the shooting of Apsay, who Coach Chad Phillips believes is one of the most underrated players in the Southland.
He certainly can make shots from long range. ‘It’s my forte,’ Apsay said.
Nick Rudolph had 18 points for Ventura (11-4).
