The most powerful official in Southern California basketball right now is Rainer Wulf, the assistant Southern Section commissioner in charge of basketball.
He is expected to release the playoff divisions in the next two weeks. He has been waiting for the state to confirm enrollment figures, and once he has that, he’ll be able to finalize the team groupings based on a formula that includes recent performances by teams. He’s still waiting on 50 schools to submit their final enrollment figures.
Schools that play boys’ basketball are holding their breath hoping they don’t get put in 1AA, which is the home of heavy favorite Santa Ana Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly and is expected to also include Los Angeles Loyola.
The suspense is building.
