Third-year football Coach Chad Reed of Cerritos High has resigned after a player alleged Reed had twice engaged in ‘inappropriate contact’ during practices this month, according to Mary Sieu, deputy superintendent with the ABC Unified School District.
Sieu said the district conducted an internal investigation and met with Reed and the player’s parents. She said Reed resigned but will continue as a teacher.
According to the complaint, the player said in an email that Reed started to scream at him during a practice drill using profanity and proceeded to throw a football ‘straight at my face.’ In a second incident, the player alleged that Reed ‘hit me upside the head with my back turned to him.’
Sieu said an interim coach will be appointed.
Cerritos was 1-9 and 3-7 under Reed the last two seasons.
