In something of a mild upset, Beverly Hills senior Sydney Gray and Templeton’s Savannah Camacho ran faster times in the girls’ 800 than Harvard-Westlake’s Amy Weissenbach, the defending state champion who has run the second-fastest time in the nation this year.
But Weissenbach won her heat in 2:11.85 and was possibly conserving energy for Saturday’s championship. Gray and Camacho won their heats in 2:10.51 and 2:11.14, respectively.
