The City Section will be the latest section to close its doors to discuss a proposed state-wide CIF TV contract on Monday.

The Interscholastic Athletic Committee is holding its regular meeting, and Commissioner Barbara Fiege said the meeting will be closed when discussion on the TV contract comes up. The Southern Section and Sac-Joaquin Sections have both announced they oppose the TV contract.

The City Section has very little revenue coming in from TV, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it supports any TV contract. Of course, no one is discussing what exactly is being proposed by the CIF other than Fox is involved in negotiations.

Marie Ishida, the executive director of the CIF, has repeatedly said, ‘No comment.’

Let’s hope the members of the IAC actually do some investigating and ask some questions of Fiege to find out why other sections are rejecting the contract.

Update: According to a memo sent out by the North Coast Section in preparation for a vote on Wednesday, the CIF is asking the section to turn over TV rights for its preseason, league and playoff events to the CIF in return for financial payments.
