The All-Southern Section teams for basketball came out in record time, and most importantly, they were well done, which is a tribute to the people who put them together, the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Assn.
The Southern Section requested that the coaches pick only one team, which some may not like because it takes away the second-team honorees. They can still pick a second team if they want. It just won’t receive official recognition.
The 10-person teams are filled with quality players. It gives the All-Southern Section teams respect. Some all-league teams have gotten out of control, picking tri-players of the year and the starting lineup of an entire team.
This was an attempt to get back to the old days and get rid of the politics and focus on recognizing the top players. I like it.
