If you miss football, Westlake Village Westlake is hosting a seven-on-seven passing competition on Saturday at 9 a.m. that will feature the Warriors, Encino Crespi, West Hills Chaminade and Manhattan Beach Mira Costa.

Westlake junior-to-be Justin Moore has taken over the quarterback duties, and all signs point toward him being a standout this fall.

‘He’s going to be outstanding,’ Coach Jim Benkert said. ‘He’s got a heck of an arm and can run. He’ll be great for us.’

Most of the teams won’t be at full strength because lots of players are participating in spring sports. Crespi has five players competing for its quarterback position, but sophomore-to-be Brad Kaaya, who’s 6-4, is the player to watch. He’s involved with baseball but once football begins, beware.

Chaminade also will be missing players, but quarterback Logan Scott should be available, and the Eagles intend to pass often this fall.

Benkert reported that two of his defensive linemen, Justin Solis and Johnny Stuart, have picked up scholarship offers from Colorado. And Benkert is looking for other teams to participate in his weekly Saturday passing competitions.
