Boys’ basketball: A 30-point effort by Dominique Dunning

New Mexico-bound Dominique Dunning of Corona Centennial contributed 30 points in his team’s 87-23 victory over Pasadena Blair in a first-round game of the Santa Monica tournament.
Palisades came back from a 20-point second-half deficit but still fell to Rialto Eisenhower, 91-88. Donovan Johnson, a junior, had 28 points for the Dolphins. Keyon Sayles led Eisenhower (2-0) with 20 points.
In the Crescenta Valley tournament, Chatsworth (5-1) received 24 points from Terrell Funches to defeat St. Francis, 71-67. Zack Gardea had 23 points for St. Francis.
West Hills Chaminade opened its season with a 78-23 victory over San Fernando in the Moorpark tournament. Gilles Dierickx had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jaron Martin had 20 points and seven assists. Freshman Jack Williams contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Granada Hills defeated Oaks Christian, 55-50, to improve to 3-0 despite having no returning starters. Chris Barbarian had 17 points.
In the Ocean View tournament, Los Angeles Loyola got 22 points from Julian Harrell in a 65-53 victory over Narbonne. Freshman guard Parker Cartwright, who was all-tournament at the Jesuit tournament in Northern California, had double figures in assists. Santa Ana Foothill defeated Long Beach Jordan, 59-43.
