Baseball: Christian Lopes starting to heat up

Expectations were perhaps too high when Christian Lopes and his brother, Tim, transferred from Valencia to Huntington Beach Edison last season. For whatever reason, the Lopes brothers struggled at times.

But it’s a new summer and a new start, and both are playing well while trying to make U.S. national teams.

Christian, a senior, had two hits Tuesday in helping his Red team defeat the Blue team, 2-1, in a game of the 18U National Team Trials in Cary, N.C.

Tim, a junior, has already been invited back for the 16U Trials in September.
