Simi Valley Royal has taken over as the No. 1 team in this week’s Southern Section Division 1 baseball coaches’ poll.

There’s only two weeks left in the regular season, and these coaches’ polls are used to help seed teams for the playoffs. Anaheim Canyon is making a late-season push and is up to No. 2.

One problem with these polls, though, is that some schools in tough leagues losing some games don’t seem to be getting credit for their difficult schedules. For example, Santa Ana Mater Dei is tied for first place in the tough Trinity League but isn’t ranked in the top 10 for Division 1. The Monarchs are only 12-9 but their schedule is off the charts.

La Mirada in Division 2 is another school that has played a difficult schedule but is unranked. Division 2 is particularly strong this season.
