Boys’ basketball: Price is right on in easy victory

BAKERSFIELD--Price made a compelling 32-minute case for why enrollment-based divisions can be a bad idea in the state basketball playoffs.

The Knights looked like a team of ringers during a 69-51 victory over Albany St. Mary’s on Friday afternoon in the state Division IV championship, with height and athleticism that their opponent just couldn’t match.

Price has played and beaten some of the top teams in the state this season, so a game against the small, scrappy Panthers amounted to little more than a mild workout. The Knights would be better served playing in Division I or II, where they would likely meet a team that could match their talent.

Price senior guard Allen Crabbe had 25 points in his final high school game before moving on to play at California. Richard Solomon added 22 points for the Knights, who won their first state title since 2005, when they played in Division V.
