Girls’ basketball: Mater Dei 38, Woodbridge 14 at halftime

Top-seeded Mater Dei (27-1) has a 38-14 halftime lead over third-seeded Woodbridge (27-5) in the Southern Section Division 2A final on Saturday at Cal State Long Beach.

Mater Dei’s defense is completely overwhelming the Warriors, causing multiple turnovers and resulting in easy layup after easy layup for the Monarchs.

At least Woodbridge scored the first basket of the game and got a taste of what it feels like to have the lead over Mater Dei, ranked No. 3 in the nation by Maxpreps.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has 13 points and Jordan Adams has 10 for the Monarchs. Sara McCutchan leads Woodbridge with six points.
