El Camino Real heads into the locker room with a 7-6 half-time lead in a game that’s been defined by key stops and missed opportunities, including three dropped passes.

On Taft’s second drive, tailback D.J. Morgan was stopped for a one-yard loss at the Conquistadores 20-yard line, setting up fourth-and-four. The Toreadors went for it, but Antuan Goodall’s screen pass to Shaquille Shelton slipped out of his fingers with 1:11 remaining in the first quarter.

El Camino Real put together 15 plays that extended through most of the second quarter, but the Conquistadores apparently don’t have faith in their kicking game. After Kawan Rally dropped a pass on a third-and-14 at Taft’s 27-yard line, the Toreadors went for it. But tailback Reggie Lucket was limited to a six-yard run.

On Taft’s next drive, Goodall found Lucky Radley wide open in the end zone, but he dropped what could’ve been a 25-yard touchdown pass with 16.3 seconds remaining in the half. Two plays later on fourth-and-10 at the 25-yard line, Goodall was sacked by Logan Bates.

Morgan has eight carries for 99 yards, with 76 of those yards going to his opening-game touchdown run. Conquistadores tailback Ra’Shon Harper has 11 carries for 42 yards.
