Mission accomplished. JSerra from San Juan Capistrano finally won a Trinity League game, defeating Santa Margarita, 14-12, on Friday.

Now the Lions (6-0, 1-0) can start focusing on a bigger goal, becoming one of the best in Orange County. Jim Hartigan, the coach brought in to finally get the football program to a higher level, is seeing progress. Remember, JSerra couldn’t even field a varsity team for the Trinity League a couple years ago, let alone beat a Trinity opponent.

JSerra’s baseball team last spring broke through to win the Trinity League title. I said then it was a watershed moment.

Now the football team seems ready to be competitive and more. Imagine what it’s going to be like in Orange County with Santa Ana Mater Dei, Anaheim Servite and Orange Lutheran facing an additional challenger.
