Baseball: Westchester’s Jacobs hits two home runs at Dodger Stadium

Chris Jacobs, a 5-foot-9 senior shortstop at Westchester who played junior varsity last season after transferring from Covina, put on a memorable show today in the City Section Division II championship game at Dodger Stadium.
He hit a double that struck the right-field wall in the first inning. He hit a three-run home run into the left-field bullpen in the second inning. And he ended the game with a three-run walkoff home run into the left-field box seats in the fifth inning for an 11-1 five-inning victory over North Hills Monroe.
He’s only the second player in City Section history to hit two home runs in a single game at Dodger Stadium.
‘I think it was an unbelievable performance,’ Westchester Coach Seka Edwards said. ‘To play at that level on this stage is what dreams are made of for a senior. He’s exceptional.’
Said Jacobs: ‘It’s very special. I’m excited.’
Jacobs hit .500 with nine home runs during the regular season. Westchester (22-9), the No. 1 seed, became the first Division II champion. Monroe (11-15) was the fourth-place finisher from the Valley Mission League and seeded No. 15. Sophomore pitcher Robert Gsellman allowed two hits for Westchester.
