The high school baseball world knows about Tyler Matzek, the pitcher. But the Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley senior also can be a formidable hitter, as demonstrated Friday when he contributed two home runs in Capistrano Valley’s 11-0 Southern Section Division I quarterfinal victory over Huntington Beach Marina.
The semifinals are set. It will be Capistrano Valley taking on Riverside Poly at 4 p.m. at Blair Field in Long Beach. At 7 p.m. at the same site, Santa Ana Mater Dei will face Huntington Beach Edison.
Matzek is expected to pitch against Riverside Poly in what figures to be his final extensive pitching effort before the draft takes place on June 9.
