There weren’t a lot of people interested in taking the Golden Valley coaching job in baseball. The team went winless in Foothill League play last season and was 3-21 overall.
But Scott Drootin, a coach who was successful at Calabasas, Chaminade and Newbury Park, took over this season, and look what’s happened.
Golden Valley won its Foothill League opener Friday, defeating Canyon Country Canyon, 5-2, behind sophomore Josh Smith, who threw a four-hitter. Golden Valley is 3-3 overall.
