Attention Newport Harbor...attention Newport Harbor...
Valencia wants a rematch after its Santa Barbara/Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions title-match loss on Saturday, and the Vikings are willing to duck out of an upcoming tournament to make it a reality.
‘I’d consider dropping out of the Redondo tournament if it meant playing them again,’ Knudsen said. ‘It’s just a dream of mine.... I wish it could happen.’
Unfortunately, Knudsen’s wishful thinking isn’t going to happen. The Vikings could drop the Redondo tournament, but Newport Harbor would have to sacrifice a league match or its contest with Corona del Mar on May 2 since another match would push it over its CIF-mandated 20-match limit.
So, it looks as a rematch between the nation’s top two teams isn’t going to happen. Oh well, at least we can dream about it.
‘They’re the team to beat,’ Knudsen said.
