Basketball: Segel sheds the moniker of the “other” Jason

Jason Segel used to be known as the backup center to Jason Collins at North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake when the Wolverines won the 1996 state Division III championship.

Even though Collins has a career in the NBA, come Friday, Segel could become the best-known Jason from Harvard-Westlake because he’s the star and writer of the new comedy film, ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall,’ which has been gathering great buzz.

‘If he’s still using the moniker, ‘Dr. Dunk,’ I should get an invite,’ Coach Greg Hilliard said.

The 6-foot-4 Segel, who also stars in the CBS TV series ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ gained a little fame in high school for his dunking ability. During a dunk contest on the East Coast, he made a two-handed dunk with the front of his jersey pulled over his head. He was quoted at the time, ‘I love getting up in front of people.’

Now everyone understands what he means.
