Who won? Who knows. Maybe both won, but, yet, probably only one of them will advance to next week’s SoCal Regionals. So who won?
San Clemente walked away with the plaque and with championship T-shirts, but soon enough CIF will make duplicates for Long Beach Wilson after the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the Southern Section Division I finals at Warren High. Due to their higher ranking, though, Wilson might get the nod to play in the SoCal Regional while SC might not.
‘It’s disappointing, but it’s a better feeling than losing, I guess,’ said San Clemente goalkeeper Hannah Turpen, who made many fantastic saves to keep the game close. ‘If you look at it that way we didn’t lose.’
If you look at it that way, no one won either.
