Say this much for UCLA: The Bruins have been consistent in their first-half performances.
They’ve all been terrible.
UCLA fell behind by as many as 11 points against No. 15 Michigan on Wednesday at the Lahaina Civic Center before putting together a mini-rally and trailing, 38-31, at halftime in the third-place game of the Maui Invitational.
The Bruins have now trailed at the midpoint of four of their first five games, with the lone exception coming against Chaminade; UCLA held a two-point edge against the Division II Silverswords.
Michigan shot 58.3% to UCLA’s 40% and outrebounded the Bruins, 18-12. UCLA senior guard Lazeric Jones’ season-long shooting woes continued as he missed all five of his shots, including both three-point attempts.
Sophomore forward Travis Wear had his best half as a Bruin, scoring 10 points on four-for-six shooting, and senior guard Jerime Anderson added eight points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer that hit the rim and fell through the net after a friendly bounce.
Sophomore forward Jon Horford had 12 points for Michigan.
