Second-year pro and former Duke star Amanda Blumenherst finished her first round at the Kia Classic with a sparkling seven-under par 66. Blumenherst is at least two shots ahead of everyone, including Germany’s Sandra Gal, who is at five-under through 16 holes.
Also finished and on the leader board is Jessica Korda, who is at one-under 72. Korda is the daughter of tennis star Petr Korda, who won the 1998 Australian Open tennis title. Petr played for the Czech Republic, but his daughter plays as an American; she grew up in Florida. Korda played with rookie Belen Mozo of Spain, who is a recent USC grad. Mozo finished with a three-over 76.
