Giants, Rangers scoreless after first inning

The Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants both threatened in the first inning but neither scored in World Series Game 3 at Rangers Park in Arlington.

The Rangers’ Michael Young hit a one-out single against San Francisco starter Jonathan Sanchez that Giants’ left fielder Pat Burrell couldn’t catch despite a diving try. A struggling Josh Hamilton then popped out and Vladimir Guerrero hit a deep fly to left but Burrell caught it near the wall.

The game opened with the Giants’ Freddy Sanchez hitting a one-out single against Texas starter Colby Lewis. After Aubrey Huff flied out, Buster Posey walked to put runners on first and second base. But the right-handed Lewis struck out Burrell to end the threat.

Moreland homer gives Rangers 3-0 lead over Giants in second inning

A three-run home run by rookie first baseman Mitch Moreland gave the Texas Rangers a 3-0 lead over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday in World Series Game 3.

Moreland lined the ball into the right-field stands at Rangers Park in Arlington after Nelson Cruz opened the inning with a double and, two outs later, Bengie Molina walked against Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez.

In the Giants’ half of the inning, Cody Ross led off with a walk. But Juan Uribe popped out and designated hitter Pablo Sandoval grounded into an easy double play.

Rangers still lead Giants, 3-0, after three innings

The Texas Rangers wasted a leadoff single by Michael Young in the third inning but still lead the San Francisco Giants, 3-0, in World Series Game 3 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Texas slugger Josh Hamilton, now only one for 10 in the series, followed Young’s single by grounding out. Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez then got Vladimir Guerrero and Nelson Cruz to ground out as well.

Texas starter Colby Lewis, meanwhile, retired the Giants in order in the top of the inning as Edgar Renteria took a called third strike, Andres Torres popped out and Freddy Sanchez flied out.

Rangers hold 3-0 lead over Giants in fourth inning

The Texas Rangers held their 3-0 lead over the San Francisco Giants after a quiet fourth inning for each team at Rangers Park in Arlington.

Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez retired the side as the Rangers’ Ian Kinsler and Jeff Francoeur struck out and Bengie Molina popped out.

In the top of the inning, Rangers starter Colby Lewis continued to hold the Giants scoreless. After giving up a one-out single to Buster Posey, Lewis struck out Pat Burrell and got Cody Ross to fly out.

Hamilton homer gives Rangers 4-0 lead over Giants in fifth inning

Josh Hamilton’s slump? Never mind. The Texas Rangers’ slugger slammed a solo home run in the fifth inning to widen the Rangers’ lead to 4-0 over the San Francisco Giants in World Series Game 3.

The left-handed Hamilton, who had been one for 10 in the series, hit a hanging curveball from Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez into the right-field stands with two out at Rangers Park in Arlington on Saturday night.

Sanchez then walked Vladimir Guerrero and was lifted for reliever Guillermo Mota. Then, as Nelson Cruz batted, the 35-year-old Guerrero was thrown out trying to steal second base.

Rangers starter Colby Lewis, meanwhile, continued sailing along as Juan Uribe flied deep to center field, Pablo Sandoval struck out and Edgar Renteria grounded out in the top of the inning.

Rangers lead Giants, 4-0, after six innings

The Texas Rangers still lead 4-0 after six innings in World Series Game 3, but the San Francisco Giants kept themselves in the game by turning back another Texas threat.

With Giants reliever Guillermo Mota pitching, the Rangers’ Ian Kinsler hit a broken-bat single and then stole second base. Mota walked Jeff Francoeur but got Bengie Molina to hit into an inning-ending double play.

The Giants tried to get something started in the top half of the inning at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington when first baseman Aubrey Huff hit a two-out double against Rangers starter Colby Lewis. But Lewis got Buster Posey to take a called third strike for the final out.

Ross homer trims Rangers’ lead to 4-1 over Giants in seventh inning

The San Francisco Giants finally scored in the seventh inning on Cody Ross’ solo home run to trim the Texas Rangers’ lead to 4-1 in World Series Game 3.

Ross’ one-out homer to left-center field at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington was his fifth of the postseason and came off Rangers starter Colby Lewis, who had all but shut down San Francisco to that point.

San Francisco reliever Jeremy Affeldt took the mound in the bottom of the seventh. After giving up a one-out single to Elvis Andrus, Affeldt got Michael Young to ground into a double play, the third double play turned by the Giants in the game.

The Giants won the first two games of the World Series at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Torres homer cuts Rangers lead over Giants to 4-2 after eight innings

Andres Torres’ solo home run helped the San Francisco Giants keep clawing back but the Texas Rangers still lead, 4-2, after eight innings in World Series Game 3 on Saturday night.

Torres hit a fastball off Rangers starter Colby Lewis into the right-field stands at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for his first homer of the postseason and, with two out, Lewis then hit Aubrey Huff with a pitch.

Lewis, who otherwise pitched extremely well, was replaced by reliever Darren O’Day, the right-handed sidearm pitcher, to face Buster Posey. Posey went to a full count but then grounded out.

In the bottom of the eighth, with Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt still pitching, Josh Hamilton flied out. Affeldt was replaced with Ramon Ramirez, who got Vladimir Guerrero to pop out.

Nelson Cruz then got aboard on a fielding error by shortstop Edgar Renteria, but Ian Kinsler struck out to end the inning.

Rangers beat Giants, 4-2

The Texas Rangers’ 22-year-old reliever Neftali Feliz retired the side in the ninth inning as the Rangers beat the Giants, 4-2, to win World Series Game 3 on Saturday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The Giants, who won the first two games in San Francisco, now lead the series two games to one. Game 4 is Sunday at 5:15 p.m. Pacific time.
