Pomona’s Shane Mosley didn’t have much left after nearly knocking down Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their May fight, but the 38-year-old boxer has enough enthusiasm to continue his career Sept. 18 in a 154-pound pay-per-view fight at Staples Center versus fellow Southern Californian and former world champion Sergio Mora.
Mosley’s promoter, Richard Schaefer, said the card will cap a four-day celebration of Mexican Independence ceremonies, including a concert, a public tribute to legendary Mexican fighters and a street fair near Staples.
After barraging Mayweather in the second round, Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) lost the final 10 rounds on all three judges’ scorecards in losing by unanimous decision on May 1. Mora (22-1-1, 6 KOs) is a former reality-television winner on the show ‘The Contender,’ and he proceeded to claim a junior-middleweight belt.
Mosley-Mora will feature an undercard including popular Mexico fighter Saul Alvarez and possibly Oxnard’s junior-welterweight Victor Ortiz, Schaefer said.
