It’s a battle of the bullpens at UCLA

National powers UCLA and Arizona State have gone to their bullpenswith their Pacific 10 Conference showdown deadlocked at 1-1 in the top of the eighth inning tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Arizona State’s Kole Calhoun knocked out Bruins starter Gerrit Cole with a double to right-center field leading off the eighth. Cole pitched seven-plus innings, giving up six hits and four walks. He also struck out nine and threw 124 pitches.
Sun Devils starter Seth Blair went 6 2/3 innings, being relieved after Chris Giovinazzo singled through the left side of the infield with two outs in the seventh. Giovinazzo stole second base but was stranded when Beau Amaral grounded out to end the inning.
Blair gave up six hits and one run, striking out six and walking three.
