The Canucks’ Mikael Samuelsson put an end to overtime in Game 1, getting the puck past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick on an assist from Henrik Sedin.
The Canucks had 44 shots on goal while the Kings had only 27, meaning Quick stopped 41 shots.
The winning shot came 8:52 in overtime. Minutes before the winning goal, Canucks’ goalie Roberto Luongo made a spectacular save on a shot by Ryan Smyth, diving at the puck with his glove hand and pushing it out of the crease before it could cross the line.
