Arizona’s Kurt Warner announces his retirement

From NFL reject to future hall of famer -- the story of Kurt Warner‘s career seems like it was crafted by a Hollywood screenwriter.

Unfortunately, even great stories have their endings, and the chapter on Warner’s NFL career closed today when the 38-year-old quarterback announced his retirement.

Warner, who fell short in his attempt to win a second Super Bowl last year, told reporters ‘he’s excited about what’s next.’

What could be next, as far a football is concerned, is his bust in the Football Hall of Fame. Despite starting his NFL career at 28, Warner passed for 32,344 yards and 208 touchdowns. In the process, he helped transform two struggling franchises -- the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals -- into contenders.

‘He has had a dominant career. He’s a good person,’ Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett told the Associated Press. ‘If you’re going to go out, go out on top.’
