Darren Oliver is headed to the Texas Rangers

After spending the last three seasons with the Angels, reliever Darren Oliver finalized a deal with the Texas Rangers today: a one-year contract worth $3 million that includes a club option for 2011.

The Angels had hoped to retain the left-hander even though they did not offer him arbitration and knew that Seattle, Tampa Bay, the New York Mets and Texas had interest in him.

Oliver, 39, was 5-1 with a 2.71 earned-run average in 63 games last season. His new contract calls for a $3-million salary for 2010 with a club option at $3.5 million for 2011; the option vests if he pitches in 59 games.

It will be the 39-year-old left-hander’s third stint with the Rangers. He began his career with them from 1993-98 and returned in 2000-01.
