Kansas tops AP poll

This week’s Associated Press college basketball poll looks a lot different from last week’s -- seven teams moved into the Top 25, matching a record set in 1955 -- but one thing that didn’t change was the No. 1 team.

All but two of the voters on the 65-member national media panel kept Kansas in the top spot for the fourth straight poll. Texas and Villanova each moved up a spot to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, and Purdue is up two to No. 4.

Kentucky, Duke, West Virginia, Syracuse, Michigan State and North Carolina round out the top 10.

Florida is the highest new entry at No. 13, while Michigan drops out from No. 15. Portland checks in at No. 25, making the poll for the first time in 50 years.

On the women’s side, Connecticut is the unanimous No. 1 for the 19th straight poll. Stanford was No. 2, followed by Ohio State, North Carolina and Notre Dame. No. 25 Dayton is making its first-ever AP poll appearance.
