Sparks guard Betty Lennox sat out of Tuesday’s game -- a 63-59 Sparks loss to the San Antonio Silver Stars -- because of inflammation in her left knee.
Lennox, the team’s second-leading scorer at 13.5 points per contest, has missed the past two games, and she remains unsure of her status for Thursday’s game against Seattle. Lennox says she’ll visit the team doctor Wednesday.
‘It’s me hitting the floor too much on my knees,’ she said. ‘I’m not as good as other players who don’t get on the floor as much as I do. I have to try to find some padding on my knee. Anybody with a healthy knee or young person who hits the floor often will eventually wear their kneecaps out.’
Lennox, already fielding inflammation in her right knee since the beginning of the season, said her left knee flared up as early as July 22 when the Sparks visited Seattle. But she played the following week against Minnesota and Chicago.
Lennox was evaluated after the Sparks’ 75-63 loss to the Sky on July 29, according to the team athletic trainer. Even if Lennox doesn’t know her exact timetable, she expects she’ll be able to play soon.
‘I’ll be okay,’ she said. ‘I play so hard and go all the way out, so I have to make sure I stay off the floor as much as I can.’
