Utah State might never win a football national championship, but the Aggies are No. 1 on at least one list.
According to Texas A&M’s Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics, Utah State runs the most efficient major-college sports program in the country -- and is therefore winner of this year’s EM Cup.
The purpose, according to a news release distributed today, is to recognize the athletic programs ‘that win the most conference and national championships, while at the same time have the lowest expenses.’
The rest of the top five: Kent State, Louisiana Tech, Akron and Brigham Young.
That’s right, not a Bowl Championship Series program in the top five. Or top 10.
Oregon was the top-ranked BCS program, coming in at No. 11 overall.
USC came in at No. 20; UCLA at 23.
