For UCLA, college basketball’s spring signing period has begun as expected.
Quietly.
The Bruins announced a 2009 class of five players, including Sylmar forward Tyler Honeycutt, in February.
Now they may or may not have another scholarship to offer, depending on whether freshman guard Jrue Holiday decides to jump to the NBA. Holiday has announced that he will make himself eligible for the draft but has not hired an agent, which means he has until June 15 to change his mind.
In the meantime, Coach Ben Howland has said repeatedly that he won’t rush out to sign another player just for the sake of having a warm body.
So with the recruiting hotline buzzing in other parts of the country, the news out of Westwood was no news. The signing period ends May 20.
