Surviving D-day: This new special looks at the U.S. victory at Omaha Beach and examines how it was won, with an emphasis on unconventional weapons and techniques, including secret-coded artworks and magic tricks (9 p.m. Discovery).

The Horse Soldiers: AMC devotes most of the day to John Wayne westerns, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with Wayne and William Holden in 1959’s “The Horse Soldiers†(9:30 a.m.), followed at 12:15 p.m. by 1970’s “Chisum,†1973’s “Cahill, United States Marshal†(2:45 p.m.), 1956’s “The Searchers†(5:15 p.m.), 1976’s “The Shootist†(8 p.m.) and 1967’s “El Dorado†(10:15 p.m.).
