Geena Davis confirmed to state commission despite opposition

State Sen. Joel Anderson (R-San Diego) shouldn’t expect an invitation to the next premiere of a movie starring actress Geena Davis.
On Thursday, Anderson was the lone vote against confirming Davis’ appointment by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the state Commission on the Status of Women.
Anderson made it clear that his vote was not a comment on her work, which has included co-starring as an outlaw in the film ‘Thelma and Louise.’
His opposition, he said, is ‘not because she isn’t qualified.’’ He added, ‘I believe this commission should be funded privately, not publicly.’’
Davis and another appointee to the panel were confirmed by the Senate after Sen. Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) noted that state money for the panel is provided in this year’s budget.
