Facebook commenting debuts in PolitiCal

Today, PolitiCal is moving to the Facebook comments system. We are joining other Times blogs that have already made the move.

Going forward, the only way you’ll be able to comment on the Forum will be by using your Facebook account. Comments that have been made under the previous system will disappear; the only ones that will remain are those you’ve written using Facebook.

Jimmy Orr, the managing editor, online, explains why we are making the change here. Our intention is to bring more consistency to the commenting process. The new system will allow your comments to be posted immediately, without the sometimes lengthy delays that we currently experience while comments are moderated.

Of course, change always brings positive and negative reactions, and we want to know what you think of this one. This initiative is an experiment, one we’re hoping will enrich the commenting experience. But let us know your thoughts. If you want to tell us, comment on this post, e-mail me by clicking here, or e-mail Martin Beck, the Times’ reader engagement and social media editor, by clicking here.
