With December’s tax receipts 5.8% below estimates, state Controller John Chiang issued a warning to California’s leaders Friday.
‘It is clear that next year’s budget deficit will not be solved by a surge in revenues,’ Chiang said in a prepared statement. ‘Rather than hope for a miracle, lawmakers must take the tough actions necessary to bring the budget back into balance.’
Tax collections in December were $562.5 million below projections.
