A bruised left arm hasn’t stopped American skier Lindsey Vonn from retaking the overall lead in the World Cup point standings.
Vonn captured her third consecutive World Cup downhill victory in the Austrian Alps this morning, edging out Anja Paerson of Sweden with a time of 1 minute, 38.84 seconds. Vonn, who is considered a favorite to win multiple alpine events at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, has a 35-point lead over Maria Riesch of Germany in the World Cup point standings.
‘I really attacked today,’ Vonn told the Associated Press. ‘I can’t be more happy with my downhill season so far.’
As for her injured arm, Vonn said it really wasn’t a factor after she got away from the gate. ‘I’m just thankful that it doesn’t hurt as bad in downhill as it did in slalom. Hopefully the self-confidence will transfer over into the technical events too.’
Vonn will compete in another downhill event on Saturday and the super-G on Sunday.
