Christine O’Donnell and CNN’s Piers Morgan take it to Twitter

Somewhere, Christine O’Donnell’s publishers are high-fiving one another. The former U.S. Senate candidate’s decision to abruptly end her interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan is a bookseller’s dream, garnering more attention for both sides -- and O’Donnell’s new book, ‘Trouble Maker’ -- than if the interview had gone off without a hitch.
The pair have continued their back-and-forth on Twitter, only fueling the surging media attention in the wake of Wednesday’s called-off interview.
O’Donnell seems, at this point, to be playing it mostly nice and frothy. ‘I only agreed to go on the Piers Morgan Show because he promised not to hack my cell phone,’ said one Tweet, followed by ‘Piers, thanks for the invite. Schedule is already packed, maybe another night. No hard feelings, you cheeky bugger.’
(In the next interview, someone might want to ask O’Donnell what she meant by the use of the word bugger, as it ranges from ... well, read it for yourself here.)
Morgan also has been busy, fielding compliments and retorts and the occasional aside, including:
‘Do you think Christine O’Donnell is going to put a witch’s curse on me now?’
‘We Brits always enjoy our tea parties.. RT @AlisonKosikCNN @PiersMorgan is hysterical, interviewing Christine O’Donnell’
‘My first ever walk-out in 25 years of interviews. I guess viewers can decide if I was ‘rude’ or not tonight at 9pm ET. #CNN’
But this story is still unfolding, and perhaps the most tantalizing tidbits are yet to come. What does all this free publicity mean for book sales? Does the publicity all but guarantee that O’Donnell will be asked about gay marriage and ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ again and again for the rest of her life by reporters trying to get a rise out of her?
And perhaps the most intriguing queston of all, raised by the Christian Science Monitor: Did Christine O’Donnell plan to walk off ‘Piers Morgan’?
A phone call and e-mail request to O’Donnell’s publisher for comment have not yet been returned.
