Black Friday: Slow going at the Grove

The Grove, as it tends to be on Black Friday, was a mellow scene.
Fewer than five shoppers meandered on the second floor of Nordstrom.
About 25 people waited outside Barnes & Noble to open at 9 a.m. -– most of them planning to nab the Nook Simple Touch on sale for $79 from $139. Many were shocked that there was a wait at all.
“I didn’t think there’d be a line out here,” said Hollywood resident Erin Moore, 29, who was looking to buy one of the e-readers for her brother. “The Grove is not somewhere you expect a line.”
The Apple Store line was only slightly longer -– but long enough for Los Angeles resident Carman Wimsatt, 40, to abandon her plans to buy an iPad after 10 minutes. She and a shopping buddy wandered away to Banana Republic to buy clothing for their children.
“The sales just aren’t that big,” Wimsatt said. “To save $40 off an iPad is not worth the line.”
