‘The Daily Show’ takes on Ikea controversy

As recent articles in the Los Angeles Times have detailed, employees at Ikea’s first factory in the United States have complained about the low wages, long hours and discriminatory treatment at the Danville, Va., plant.

A union organizer working with the employees has said that Ikea seems to look upon southern Virginia as American companies have traditionally looked upon Mexico: considering it a low-wage alternative (an assertion Ikea and its manufacturing subsidiary, Swedwood, deny).

Wednesday night, ‘The Daily Show With Jon Stewart’ took a more humorous look at the topic, complete with references to Ikea’s iconic Allen wrenches, Swedish meatballs and socialism.
