Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez really are engaged, he confirms

Halle Berry may have said a few years back that she would never marry again, but it seems girlfriend wasn’t exactly telling the truth -- she is in fact engaged to marry French actor Olivier Martinez, he confirmed over the weekend.

‘Yes, of course it’s true,’ Martinez told Miami.com, clearing up rumors Saturday while promoting his new South Beach restaurant, Villa Azur.

A rep for jeweler Gurhan was saying back in January that the emerald on Berry’s ring finger was an engagement ring, and that claim had Martinez a bit miffed -- because the opulent trinket was actually designed by Robert Maslo of Paris, whose family has been making jewelry for ‘kings and queens for many centuries,’ he told the website.

In Gurhan’s defense, a rep said later that the company couldn’t be sure Berry was wearing its design. Guess we know the answer to that question now.

And here’s the kind of thing you hear only from the real deal: “The ring is textured and contains codes and symbols which you cannot see ... only the person wearing it can,’ the jeweler told People exclusively of the emerald and gold bauble, which also has two diamonds. ‘It’s very uncommon. The symbols and codes represent [the couple’s] story and only they can interpret it.’

Maslo said he didn’t realize he was crafting an engagement ring when Martinez approached him last year with the project. Berry and Martinez first stepped out publicly as a couple in October 2010. This will be Berry’s third marriage.
