Zsa Zsa Gabor‘s hip replacement surgery was a success, her husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt said Monday.
The 3 1/2-hour procedure was necessary after the actress suffered broken bones on her right side in a fall from her bed onto a hardwood floor Saturday night.
Von Anhalt, a candidate in the state’s gubernatorial race, said at a press conference Monday that despite having been contacted by news outlets regarding planned debates, he will ‘put [the campaign] in the closet’ for a while if his wife’s condition doesn’t improve sufficiently.
Wearing one of his campaign’s bright red hats, he said he will ‘stay in the hospital as long as she is in the hospital ... that’s more important than being governor of California.’
The couple have been together ‘so long, almost 24 years, we are glued to each other,’ he said.
He noted that it was fortunate she’d fallen on her right side, as her right leg was the one that had previously been damaged. Gabor has been partially paralyzed since 2002, when a car driven by her hairdresser hit a pole on Sunset Boulevard; she suffered a stroke in 2005.
