In an award season stuffed with conservative cocktails and polite applause, the Grammys serve as a welcome wild child. After Sunday night’s big show, recording royalty flocked to their respective bashes and did what they do best -- make beautiful music.
Jamie Foxx and Grey Goose hosted a soiree at L.A. Live’s the Conga Room, just across the street from the ceremony at Staples Center. Foxx -- who won a Grammy along with T-Pain for R&B performance by a duo or group with vocals for the song ‘Blame It’ -- welcomed the likes of Gerard Butler, Jody Watley, Jason Mraz and pop princess Kristine Elezaj. The actor-singer tapped rappers LMFAO for an intimate live performance, earning major points from his teenager Corinne, who danced with girlfriends while her dad played emcee.
With a bottle of Veuve Clicquot in hand, Foxx donned gold aviators and asked the packed house, ‘Who wants to do some shots?’
Jermaine Dupri jumped on stage to jam with Foxx, along with Kelly Price. Watley, for the first time in years, shared her hit ‘Looking For a New Love’ with partygoers. ‘I had no intention of performing, but when Jamie Foxx calls you on stage to sing, you sing,’ Watley said. ‘And to sing my record with him was an amazing experience. I hadn’t done it in a while, and that was the way to bring it back.’
Across town at the W Hotel Westwood, Universal Motown Republic group toasted Lil Jon, Enrique Iglesias, Colbie Caillat and Akon. Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland made fast friends with R&B vet Brandy, roaming the party like old pals alongside Kid Cudi and Melanie Fiona.
At W’s shiny new Hollywood venue, EMI and Capitol Records took over the lobby, outdoor living room and private event space. British import VV Brown played DJ for a crowd that counted Russell Brand and fiancee Katy Perry, Slash, Sam Sparro, Bardot brainchild Jason Scoppa and rocker Deryck Whibley.
Soul singer Maxwell hosted his own to-do at L.A.’s Skybar, where he celebrated his best R&B album award with Smokey Robinson, director Quentin Tarantino and actor Dylan McDermott.
And at the historic Avalon Hollywood, MTV reality gal Stephanie Pratt toasted with ‘Sex and the City’ hunk Gilles Marini for Supermodels Unlimited’s bash.
