Neighbors in south Sacramento woke up to the smell Friday morning of a gas leak and a BMW smashed into a home.

The car hit a gas meter and crashed into the house around 3:30 a.m. The driver appears to have been speeding and left a skid mark about 70 feet long when he tried to slam on the breaks, Fox40 in Sacramento reported.

The car hit a house and at least one person in the home was injured, suffering a minor gash to the head.

The driver also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he was going to be checked to see if he was under the influence.

Neighbors were evacuated from their homes because of the potential for an explosion after the gas leak.
