Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes in far Northern California

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon in far Northern California near the Oregon border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 1:38 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 21.1 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Weitchpec, 29 miles from Willow Creek, 51 miles from Eureka and 214 miles from Sacramento.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
