Police shoot burglary suspect in North Hollywood

A burglary suspect was shot by Los Angeles police Saturday night after attacking officers with a wooden stick, police said.

Two LAPD officers responded to a burglary call on the 10900 block of Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood about 10:35 p.m., a department spokesman, Officer Cleon Joseph, said.

A suspect fled the scene and the officers gave chase, Joseph said. At some point during the chase, the suspect picked up a wooden stick and attacked the officers, which led one or both of the officers to open fire on him, according to Joseph.

The officers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and the suspect was treated at a hospital for his injuries, Joseph said.

He had no other details about the incident.

As with all police shootings, detectives from the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division will spend the next several months reviewing witness statements and other evidence in an effort to re-create the shooting. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and the department’s oversight board will then decide if the officers’ actions were within department policy.
