Winter weather even in balmy Southern California means cozy gifts such as L.L.Bean’s Wicked Good moccasin boot.
L.L.Bean is ripe for rediscovery. The Freeport, Maine, mail-order brand has been drawing a buzz since it hired Rogue’s Gallery’s Alex Carlton as creative director of its L.L.Bean Signature collection due out next March, which also marks the company’s 100th anniversary. The L.L. Bean Signature Collection will feature modern interpretations of label classics such as chinos, madras shirt dresses, wrap skirts and, of course, the tote bag.
This year Carlton was nominated for the GQ/CFDA Best New Menswear Designer. Rogue’s Gallery recently collaborated with J.Crew for a collection of graphic T-shirts.
The Wicked Good moc boot slipper ($49.95) is a comfy version of the bluchers and moccasins that have become a stylish footwear essential during the last year. They also have a rubber sole, in case you need to step outdoors to chase down an errant pooch.
If you live in a lightly insulated California abode, you might want to put these sheep shearling-lined shoes on before walking on cold marble or tile floors.
You can still order these by Dec. 23 for express shipping. Or get them for yourself in preparation for that New Year’s Eve jaunt to Mammoth.
