Live concerts at the airport? Katy Perry kicks off Dubai International’s music campaign
The thought of live concerts at the airport to while away the time before your flight is pretty fantastic. Dubai International Airport says it’s planning to do just that, launching a series of concerts designed to entertain passengers.
To get things started for what’s called musicDXB (those are the airport’s call letters), pop star Katy Perry last Tuesday belted out a dazzling set to an invitation-only Dubai Air Show gala dinner at a hotel.
A day later, Jack Pack, a four-piece swing group and “Britain’s Got Talent†finalist, played an inaugural pop-up concert at the airport’s new stage.
“Shall we all have a party at the airport?†one of the musicians said as passengers joined hands and swayed to the band’s convincing version of the Sinatra anthem “New York, New York.†(See video.)
The airport will partner with Done Events to “feature performances from global superstars, the hottest emerging international acts and up-and-coming local artists to entertain and engage passengers,†according to a statement.
Wow, most of us would just settle for free WiFi. No upcoming performers have been named for the concerts promised over the next eight weeks.
Dubai International sees 79 million passengers each year and has 1.5 million Facebook likes too. Dubai (the city and the airport) is in the United Arab Emirates.
