Patriots’ Bill Belichick on Tim Tebow: ‘We’ll see how it goes’
Looking for insight on how the New England Patriots intend to use just-signed quarterback Tim Tebow?
Don’t look to Bill Belichick.
All but one of the first 19 questions for the Patriots coach at a news conference Tuesday were about Tebow. In classic Belichickian style, he blunted all Tebow curiosity, responding to questions about the quarterback in the most generic and least revealing way possible.
“Anything we do is what we think is in the best interest of the team,†Belichick told the large gathering of reporters who showed up at team headquarters to cover the Tebow signing. “Tim’s a talented player who’s smart and works hard. So ... we’ll see how it goes.â€
Asked what position Tebow would play, the coach repeated: “We’re going to do what we think is best for our football team.â€
Will he play special teams?
“We’ll see. I don’t know.â€
Pressed further, Belichick said: “I think we’ve already talked enough about him. We’ll see how it goes and we’ll go from there.â€
When it comes to colorful quotes, Belichick is essentially a shutdown corner. But that’s probably the best way to keep the Tebow situation under control, just starve it of oxygen. Eventually, the distraction will dissipate and we might actually see what type of contribution he can make on the field.
