It’s not often you get to mention Taylor Swift and McKayla Maroney in the same sentence. But you can do it more often now that they have one thing in common: They will both be on stage at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards next month.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team (Maroney, Gabby Douglas, Alexandra Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber) won the women’s team gold medal at the London Olympics and were announced as presenters for the Sept. 6 show. Swift will sing a song during the show.

Let’s hope Kanye West doesn’t interrupt Gabby Douglas and say her gold medal should have gone to Beyonce.

Miley Cyrus, rapper Wiz Khalifa and alternative hip-hop artist Mac Miller will also present awards.

Drake and Rihanna lead with five nominations each. They are both nominated for video of the year, along with Katy Perry, M.I.A. and Gotye.

What, no love for the U.S. swim team’s “Call Me, Maybe†video?

Comedian Kevin Hart will host the VMAs live from Staples Center. Performers include Swift, Green Day, Alicia Keys, Pink and One Direction.
